Gluten Free Baking from scratch is definitely not tricky. But if you are in a hurry these Gluten Free Baking Mixes from Delicious Alchemy are definitely the best around. So simple and they taste great! They are also Dairy Free 🙂

I am a huge baking enthusiast and love cooking everything from scratch. However with my new job I seem to have less and less time to get in the kitchen! So I decided to give a couple of gluten free baking mixes a go to see what the results would be.
I chose to use the brand Delicious Alchemy as I recently tried and loved some of their products at The Allergy and Free From Show. I opted for the Chocolate Brownie Mix. Ever since I started my new job I have seen so many chocolate brownie bites being passed around the office and haven’t been able to enjoy any of them! This had to change!
Not only is the Brownie Mix gluten free, it is also dairy free, which is great news for Mark and I. It is very complete in itself; all you need to add is two eggs and a small amount of melted dairy free margarine. After 18 minutes in the oven the brownie mix has blossomed into delicious brownies! After 20 minutes cooling time they are ready to indulge in, which is exactly what we did!
The brownies were moist and gooey inside. They were as good a’ brownie as I have ever tasted. Mark and I enjoy warming up our brownies and eating them with a large dose of soy ice cream and some toffee sauce. It certainly is tricky not to eat too many of these brownies at once, they really are delicious. I feel like this Brownie Mix is a great thing to have in your cupboard for a rainy day. If you have friends coming round last minute and want to impress them with some baking, this is a simple and tasty way of doing so. I will definitely be grabbing another bag of this mix, though I doubt it will stay in my cupboard for long! Mark has mentioned that he fancies trying to make these himself sometime – I’m looking forward to this a lot!!
I also opted for the Oaty Cookie Mix. I haven’t always had the best relationship with oats, gluten free or not. But I decided that it has been a while since I last tried oats so I would give this mix a go. I have always been a massive fan of anything oaty, from porridge; to flapjacks and oat cookies are no exception.
These cookies are even simpler to make and bake than the brownies are. All you need is to add 75g of melted dairy free margarine and 30ml of water to the oaty cookie mix. Then roll the mix into balls, press them down and bake for around 16 minutes.
The cookies smell amazing when they are baking in the oven and taste even better once they are out. As you can imagine I couldn’t wait to try them and ended up eating my first cookie whilst still warm – this made it all the better! They are great once cooled as well. I was surprised at how tasty these simple cookies were. This mix is definitely another great one for the cupboard as they are so quick to bake. I think they would taste even better with some added dairy free chocolate chips; this is something I will definitely do next time.
Overall I really enjoyed baking with the Delicious Alchemy mixes over the weekend. They changed my mind on what I previously thought gluten free baking mixes were like. The ingredients within the mix are simple with nothing artificial added. The resulting cookies and brownies were amazing and of course, best of all they are all gluten free and dairy free.
Delicious Alchemy also does other baking mixes that I might try out in the future. I must also mention that I really enjoy their website, it is full of gluten free recipes that use some of their products and they also have a great social media presence. Earlier this year they ran a Gluten Free Magic Bake Off competition that ran alongside the Great British Bake Off on TV. I meant to get involved but I felt I couldn’t compete with all the amazing entries they had! There is always next year!
Although baking from scratch will firmly stay top of my agenda, my view of gluten free baking mixes and their quality has certainly changed after trying out these mixes. Let me know your views on gluten free baking mixes if you have tried any, it would be great to hear your thoughts! Gluten Free Baking Mixes are definitely not the only and definitive way of baking but there is definitely a time and place for them!
Thanks for reading,
Until next time,
